Summer camp is one of the most valuable experiences your Scout can have with his troop: we build community, learn new skills and earn merit badges, and above all, we have a huge amount of fun.
Keowa Medical forms are due for all Scouts and chaperoning adults on June 1, without exception. You will need a physician's signature for the forms, so please see your doctor as soon as possible to be sure of receiving the forms in time.
Please download this health form packet and ask your doctor to
1. complete and sign Part C,
2. complete and sign the OTC Medication form,
3. provide a copy of your Scout's immunization record. See our FAQs for the list of required vaccinations.
Once you have received the signed forms from your doctor, please submit them and responses to additional health questions at the button below.
Several merit badge choices require Scouts to complete some work before camp. Please review your merit badge schedule and complete the requirements before camp!
If a Scout does not complete all of the requirements for his merit badge at Keowa, that is fine. He will be issued a “partial” merit badge that can be completed at any time before he turns 18. The camp keeps track of which requirements have been completed for the badge. Adult leaders will be checking in with the Scouts mid-week to see how they are progressing.
Be Prepared! You can see a suggested packing list for Keowa by clicking on the button below. Some must-have items: duct tape to repair tears in your tent, mosquito net. Do NOT bring food of any kind. There are bears and other wildlife that will be drawn to food in tents. NO PERSONAL TENTS.
You can also plan for Keowa's theme days!
Troop Pride, Crazy Hat, Outer Space, Order of the Arrow, Keowa Pride.
Scouts should arrive in their Class B shirts. Pack your swimsuit and towel in the top of your pack as we will take a swim test as part of the check-in process. All Scouts must complete the swim test.
Scouts who take medication regularly should bring medications to camp in their original packaging with dosage information. (It helps to put all packaged meds in one ziplock bag, labeled with your Scout’s name and Troop.)
Medications will be handed to the Troop Leader for camp (Antonio Del Rosario), who will ensure they are given to the camp nurse. Scouts will be directed to the Camp Nurse at mealtimes to get their medication.
If your Scout regularly takes medication to manage ADHD or similar neurodiversity issues at school, we strongly recommend that they continue their medications at camp. Merit badge classes and safety needs at the camp site can require a similar level of focus to school.
Keowa can accommodate Scouts with food allergies or intolerances, but it is important that they receive advance notice. If you have an allergy or intolerance please be sure to list it on your health forms, AND to inform the Trip Leaders directly. We don't want any bad surprises!
The adult leaders will have cell phones available, but Scouts should not have a phone at summer camp. This is a time to unplug.
If there is an emergency, we will call you. If you need to reach us, you can call us on our cell phones (available on Troopmaster). Keep in mind that reception is spotty so it might take a bit of time for us to get back to you. Your adult leaders at Keowa are: Antonio del Rosario, Manny Chang, Jonathan Dozier-Ezell, Virginia Rowe, Panos Vergetis, Emanuele Cimica.
Please be available if we need to reach you and able to drive to camp to pick up your Scout in case of emergency or the rare case of extreme homesickness. This is not the time to leave the country on vacation.
Camp Keowa is at 1481 Crystal Lake Road, Narrowsburg, NY. The drive from NYC should take approx. 2 hours.
There will be no organized transportation for summer camp. Parents must drop off and pick up their Scouts, or arrange their own car pools with other drivers.
Check in: Troop 662 will meet in the main parking lot by the medical center at 11.30am on Sunday July 6. DO NOT BE LATE. The entire group must be present for check in. One late Scout delays the whole troop.
Please note: Keowa does not serve lunch on Sunday, so make sure to eat before check-in. We will be staying in Sites 13 & 14.
Pick up: Pick up will be in the main parking lot on Saturday, July 12 at 9am. Do not be late, the adult leaders cannot leave until you pick up your Scout.
If your Scout has registered for camp but cannot attend for any reason: a change of plans, illness or other unexpected event, you MUST let leadership know as soon as possible. Please contact Saskia Siderow. We cannot secure refunds for late cancelations except under special circumstances. You can find a copy of the Keowa refund policy in our FAQs.

All Scouts can register! We recommend that Scouts attend at least one weekend camping trip with the Troop before attending summer camp, especially young Scouts that have never before had a sleepaway camp experience. A week in a tent in the woods with creepy crawlies can be a shock to our newer Scouts, but rest assured that Summer Camp is where Scouts fall in love with Scouting!
Keowa is one of the best deals in summer camping!
Yes! The Troop will camp together at Keowa during the first week of summer camp, but Scouts that would like to attend Aquehonga or Keowa at any other time during the camp season can do so as “provisional Scouts”. This is not generally recommended for first-time campers, however.
If you would like to register for a second week or more, please send an email to Saskia Siderow with details of what you plan to register for and she will send you a payment link.
Yes! Scouts over 15 years of age who would like to spend the whole summer at Keowa or Aquehonga can apply for the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. We highly recommend this program!
Counselors-in-Training can complete merit badges, and we have many current Troop members who will be working at Camps Keowa and Aquehonga this summer!
Keowa has an amazing schedule of merit badges and classes.
As you make your choices, please note:
We are so glad you asked! This is VERY important. Health forms for summer camp require a doctor’s signature (for both Scouts and adults), so please make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. These forms are required for ALL Scouts registering for Keowa, even if you submitted forms for the troop earlier in the year.
Please download the health form packet and take it to your doctor. Ask your doctor to
1. complete and sign Part C,
2. complete and sign the OTC Medication form,
3. provide a copy of your Scout's immunization record. By order of Sullivan County, NY, immunizations MUST include Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP/DTP/Tdap), Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), Polio (IPV/OPV), Varicella (Chickenpox), and Meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY).
When you have obtained your signed documents from your doctor, submit these health forms and other parent-provided health information in our health form portal.
The deadline to submit health forms is June 1.
YES, YES, YES!!! We need and welcome volunteers – we are so grateful for our community of enthusiastic adults, and as the Troop grows, we need more of you. This is a great opportunity to do BSA training, and camp counts towards nights needed to join the Order of the Arrow. For adults who would like to register for summer camp, please note:
If you would like to join us at Keowa, please email saskia.siderow@gmail.com
There will be no organized transportation for summer camp. Parents must drop off and pick up their Scouts, or car pool with other drivers.
Scouts with special dietary needs or allergies should indicate these on their health forms.
With advance notice, the Camp Keowa food service can accommodate almost all dietary restrictions, except kosher meals, as they do not have a supervising Rabbi. Please contact Saskia Siderow if you have special requirements.
If your Scout has registered for camp but cannot attend for any reason: a change of plans, illness or other unexpected event, you MUST let leadership know as soon as possible. Please contact Saskia Siderow saskia.siderow@gmail.com or +1 347-556-4147
We cannot secure refunds for late cancelations except under special circumstances (please see refund policy below).
Under certain circumstances, the registration fee for a camper or leader may be refunded, either in whole or in part. Refund checks will be written to units and not to individual families, so please allow for processing times.
Full Refund (Less Initial $65 per-Camper Deposit)
The complete balance of a camper’s fee (less initial deposit) or leader’s fee may be refunded at any time up to and including the unit’s arrival at camp for the following reasons (if accompanied by appropriate documentation):
Partial Refunds
For reasons other than the above, partial refunds may be made to the unit/individual. After April 1st, TMR retains $150 of the full-week payment in addition to the non-refundable $65 deposit ($215 total) to cover expenditures that are made prior to camp, including the hiring of the seasonal staff, food service contracts, and the purchase of program-related items, which are based on projected attendance. In order to be considered for a partial refund the request must be submitted by June 15th. After this date, the camper will be considered a "no-show"
No-Show
Any camper that is a no-show will forfeit the entire registration fee unless there is supporting documentation to qualify for a full refund as detailed above.
